Product Description This 10ga Greener side by side is in good condition. Has Damascus barrels and is underlever. Make: Greener Gauge: 10ga Model: SBS We believe the year of manufacture is 1875 or 1876 and that the action can faintly reveal the name "Stanton" just underneath the main spring. Greener have expressed surprise that Stanton had anything to do with the manufacture of this gun.
Most probably a "wild fowling gun"; also referred to as a "crippler". Cripplers were used by hunters shooting a mob of sitting birds with a punt gun, they might use a 10g such as this fine old Greener to finish them off. These larger bored guns were also used around England and the colonies for hunting geese and swans. Black swans were such a problem in the Christchurch district that the bounty on two birds equalled the price of a box of 25 shotshells. Features
