The new S.O.L. (survive outdoors longer) survival pack takes the critical survival items and packages them in an ultralite water proof dry bag.  The kit consists of:

·         A heat sheet survival blanket which reflects 90% of your body’s heat back to you.  It’s water proof, windproof, and fits two people.

·         An ultra thin whistle which can be heard from other 1km away.

·         Tinder quick is a water proof material that burns for 2 to 3 minutes upon lighting.

·         A 20mm survival compass which is liquid filled and dampened and will accept an improvised lanyard ring.

·         A mini rescue flash signal mirror.

·         Survival matches which are waterproof and windproof and are stored in a water tight tube.

·         A survival fishing and sewing kit and a small roll of duct tape.

In the field we quite often meet a lot of people that have no survival gear at all.  And to perfectly honest, in the weather conditions that New Zealand can throw at us, we need to be prepared.  I, and most of the guys I hunt with, have always carried a survival kit.  It is a very important item.
